Yealink Devices and Microsoft Teams AOSP Migration
1. Introduction
Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android devices rely on the Android Device Administration (ADA) feature for device management. However, it is important to note that Google has deprecated this feature, leaving GMS (Google Mobile Services) as the only option for device management. In response to this shift, Teams devices offer an alternative approach that does not rely on GMS but instead leverages the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This non-GMS approach requires a slightly different technical framework, where the Company Portal app is replaced by the nGMS agent and authenticator app.
For more information, please refer to Intune ending support for Android device administrator on devices with GMS in December 2024.
2. Migration announcement
Yealink will migrate the current sale devices to AOSP. The migration will be in the form of firmware, and it will not affect the users during the migration. Devices included: A10, A20, A30, A24 (Teams Room Mode), CTP18, MB65, MB86, RoomPanel, RoomPanel Plus, MP54, MP56, MP58, CP965.
3. Migration Guide
Yealink will provide the firmware for migration. You can read more about this in the Microsoft official website or the Microsoft Intune admin center Message center under MC665936, as well as Moving Teams Android Devices to AOSP Device Management for further migration guidance.
4. Solutions for EOL Devices
If the user's device model is not included in the above, please refer to the following method for operation.
The device can still be used normally, but the administrator needs to configure the device access allowed to use ADA (Android device admin) authentication, as follows:
5. General Availability Timeline
We expect the availability of software builds and migration to occur in the second half of 2024. This migration will be available as a firmware update. For now, no changes or configurations are required on your devices.
